Corobrik trains South Africa’s youth
Corobrik will be instrumental in training 42 young South Africans in the Western Cape for an economic future in bricklaying and paving after being appointed a service provider for the government’s expanded Public Works programme. The learners will participate in artisan skills training under the skills development programme Youth in Construction using the Corobrik Western Cape building training centre. Corobrik human resources development manager Berkley Petty says the brick and paving manufacturer was selected to train the selected youth following an invitation bid received from the Department of Public Works. Petty says the initial six months includes training modules in bricklaying and paving; theory on calculating quantities and materials, safety training and a first-aid course. From June the learners will be placed with construction companies to gain practical on-site experience.
